Our review

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash scores 16.0 in this max run, below high and both its other max runs. The model sits 14th on the Index. On the interactive 2×2 ladder, it gave up at level 4 with 2 lives left. It said it was stopping to bank the result, though its closing claim of no lives lost followed a failed attempt.

The 2×2 began with solutions of 1, 2 and 3 moves, each matching the scramble length, before the miss and surrender. On the interactive 3×3, we saw the same exact-length opening solves, then all 3 lives lost at level 4. One-shot went a level further without feedback: it solved through level 4, then submitted 3 wrong answers at level 5. Before the first of those misses, it described its answer as a best-guess inversion. The Gauntlet stayed locked.

The suite took 5 h 20 min and cost $3.28. The high run scored better in 4 h 55 min for $2.70, making this max run both slower and more expensive. The best-scoring max run took 8 h 28 min and cost $6.15.

  • Test 1 of 3best level 3 of 11 · 55 moves · 2h 23m · gave up · replay

At max, it solved through level 3 of 11, then gave up on level 4 with 2 lives left. The first 3 solves matched their scramble lengths, but the first level-4 attempt took over 2 h and exhausted all 48 moves. On the fresh cube, it announced a layer-by-layer method, made 1 move, then stopped. It said its search for the exact scramble had failed and its long-hand solves had errors, choosing to bank the result rather than spend more moves.

It reached level 3 of 20, then lost all 3 lives at level 4 by exhausting each cube’s 48-move limit. The first 3 solves exactly reversed their scrambles, though the 3-move solution took about 36 min and 2 extra looks. The first level-4 attempt consumed nearly 88 min as it applied separate algorithms for edges and corners without finishing. On the final cube, it repeated R U R' U' 12 times, spending its last life in 41 s.

It reached level 4 of 20, then lost all 3 lives to wrong answers at level 5. The level 4 solve took 19 min 40 s, more than half the round’s 37 min 46 s, while the final two misses each took just over a minute. All four successful answers exactly reversed their scrambles; all three failed answers also used only 5 moves, but left the cubes unsolved.
